Winter Hair Probs: get healthy looking hair

Winter Hair Probs The winter months can play havoc with hair and cause all kinds of 'Winter Hair Probs'. Follow the tips below to minimise damage caused by the cold weather and maintain beautiful, healthy hair.

Washing

To prevent it from becoming too dry, try not to wash your hair too often - two or three times each week maximum. If necessary, use some dry shampoo at the roots to avoid that greasy look. Invest in some good quality hair care products, which will keep your hair looking better for longer and provide additional protection from the elements when outside.

Drying

When drying your hair, use a heat protection spray to prepare the hair and minimise damage. Wet hair is particularly fragile and prone to breakage, so it is best not to brush your hair at all while it is wet. Instead rough dry it with a towel and a bit of heat or better still allow it to air dry. Then use a tangle teaser, such The Wet Brush, to carefully brush it out, starting at the bottom and working your way up.

Nutrition

Use good quality repair and protect shampoo and conditioner each time you wash your hair. Once a week apply a conditioning treatment to replace moisture lost as a result of central heating and cold air. Use a small amount of frizz serum on split ends. This will both seal existing ones and prevent them occurring in the future.

Protection

Always try to wear a hat when venturing out into the rain or wind. To avoid 'hat hair' you could wear a silk scarf underneath to prevent the hat creating static and rubbing against your hair. Apply hair serum once you have finished styling. If your hair has a tendency to frizz it is a good idea to keep some anti-frizz serum in your handbag in case you get caught in the rain.
